Oldach Wins 4th Congressional District Art Competition

From novice photographer back at the start of his high school career, to now creating award winning pieces, John Oldach accomplished a lot during his four years at Hopkinton High. The now graduated senior, recently added to his growing awards collection, after winning first place in the photography category for the 2013 4th Congressional District Art Competition, and now has his piece, "Pipes", on display in Congressman Joe Kennedy's office.

Oldach's award winning photo was taken at an old warehouse in Framingham.

Like "Pipes", much of Oldach's work is inspired by capturing the stories of old, abandoned places. However, his penchant for seeking out these types of images sometimes gets him into trouble.

And going into places he shouldn't be going into isn't the only type of risk taking that Oldach has done to get the perfect photo. His photography teacher at the High School, Sterling Worrell, believes that Oldach's willingness to experiment is what makes him such a good photographer.

Ultimately, Oldach credits Worrell's teaching approach with not only developing his skills as a photographer, but with guiding him throughout his time at the High School.

Oldach will be attending UMASS Amherst in the fall and will study engineering. However, he does still plan on incorporating photography into his post high school life by taking photographs for fun and is considering participating in a photography club at school.
