HEF Awards Annouced for 2013-2014 School Year

Thursday, May 16th was a day of surprises for two of Hopkinton's educators as the Hopkinton Education Foundation announced its grant for the 2013-2014 school year. A total of six grants totaling over $77,000 were awarded to educators across the district, but two of the recipients receiving the largest grants the organization has ever awarded were surprised with an early morning visit by the Grants Committee Chairperson Jennifer Breslin who was accompanied by the HCAM News camera.

Memorial Day Activities in Hopkinton

Monday, May 27, 2013, Hopkinton will hold its annual Memorial Day commemorative events. Events will include prayers, readings, playing of “Taps”, gun salutes, a parade and will culminate with the raising of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem at the Town Common.

Events will begin at the Evergreen Cemetery in Woodville at 9:45 a.m. At 10:30 several veteran memorial locations on Mayhew Street will each be honored. The parade to the Town Common Gazebo will start at 11:15 and end at noon with the traditional raising of the flag and the singing of the National Anthem.

Newly Elected and Sworn In

On May 22nd, newly elected School Committee member Ellen Scordino officially accepted her role after being sworn in at Town Hall.

Two days later, elected Town Moderator Dr. Bruce Karlin was officially sworn in by Town Clerk Ann Click and it was then Karlin's turn to swear in Hopkinton's new Town Clerk Geri Holland. Karlin's swearing in ceremony officially marked the culmination of retiring Town Clerk Ann Click's sixteen year tenure in the position. s Karlin then swore in new Town Clerk Geri Holland.

Alta Legacy Farms Affordable Housing Lottery to be held on July 18

Applications are now being accepted for 60 new affordable apartments at Alta Legacy Farms. Completed applications and the required income documentation must be received, not postmarked, by 2PM on Monday, July 8, 2013 with the lottery drawing to follow on Thursday, July 18 in Room 215 in Hopkinton’s Town Hall, located at 18 Main Street, Hopkinton, MA.

Monthly rent is $1,255 for 1-bedroom units and $1,398 for two-bedroom units and does not include any utilities except for water and sewer. Maximum income limits for households are as follows:

Senator Spilka Votes to Pass Balanced Budget

The Massachusetts Senate on Friday voted to pass a $33.989 billion budget for fiscal year 2014 (FY14), announced Senator Karen Spilka. Once again the Senate has adhered to its unfaltering pledge to prioritize funding for cities and towns. It also makes strategic investments to increase economic security and support economic development.

Hiller Girls Perfect Season

Hiller Varsity Girls Tennis ended the regular season this week with a 5-0 win over the Medway Mustangs on Monday and a 3-2 victory over the Wolverines of Westwood on Wednesday.

For the first time ever, the Lady Hillers went undefeated in the Tri Valley League with a 14-0 record, and the girls clinched the TVL championship for the second year in a row. The Hillers are awaiting the tournament seedlings next week.

Hillers Finish Season Ready For Weekend Tourney

The Hiller Varsity Baseball team concluded it's Tri-Valley League schedule with an 11-10 victory at Westwood on Wednesday, May 22. In the process, the Hillers captured the Tri-Valley League Large Division title with a record of 12-6. Junior Andrew McMillan led the way for the Hillers, throwing 4-plus innings of solid relief for the victory and contributing two hits and three runs scored at the plate. Senior Ryan Sullivan had three doubles, while Senior Connor Hudson and Juniors Nick Burns and Chris Moberg all had two hits.

School Transport Forms Are Due Friday!
