Sunday Taps Vigil April 3

Please join the Hopkinton Veteran’s Celebration Committee on SUNDAY, April 3 as we join thousands of communities across America for a remembrance ceremony at the Hopkinton Senior Center at 28 Mayhew Street in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The Committee is hosting a “Sunday Taps Vigil” starting at 7:00 p.m.

The ceremony will consist of a short tribute to American soldiers, veterans and their families and is expected to last 15 minutes. The ceremony will include the sounding of the 24 hauntingly beautiful notes of “Taps.”

Girls 7th Grade Travel Basketball Wins State Tournament

Congratulations to the Hopkinton Girls 7th grade "A" Travel Basketball team for winning the Massachusetts State Basketball Tournament this month in Foxboro, Mass. The girls defeated Charlton, Duxbury and Medfield to win the championship. The team finished 11-1 in Metro West Division 1 and finished with an overall record of 26-3. This is the team’s 2nd consecutive state championship! Pictured in front row (left to right): Sarah Bertschmann, Allie Rodman, Alli McNulty, Kate Welzel and Jen Manning.

Troop 4 Pancake Breakfast

On Saturday April 9th the Boy Scouts from Troop 4 will hold its 2nd Annual Pancake Breakfast. Breakfast will be served by the scouts from 7:30 am until 11:30 am inside the St. John the Evangelist Church Hall at 20 Church Street in Hopkinton. The boys will prepare original and chocolate chip pancakes, sausages, juice, coffee and more. Last year over 400 people attended the Pancake Breakfast and we are hoping to have over 600 guests attend in 2011.

From the Youth Commission: Suicide Prevention

Dear Friends of the Hopkinton Community,

Our town is still dealing with feelings of shock and grief since recently losing two of our college-age youth to suicide. Many people are wondering what we as a town of caring citizens can do. Hopkinton is not alone in dealing with this issue. As suicide is becoming a more common incident within our society, we need to understand and address it more openly with prevention in mind as community.

Post Prom Chaperones Needed

Post Prom is looking for volunteers to chaperon the post prom event on Friday, May 27th from 11pm to 5am. Traditionally, parents from the sophomore class are the chaperones for the Junior Post Prom party. Post Prom committee member Kristrina Parsons says that , to date, eight chaperones have volunteered, but more are needed.

"We need about 25 chaperones in total," said Parsons.

Hopkinton's Women's Club Celebrates 91st Anniversary

At their Monday, April 11th meeting, members of the Hopkinton's Women's Club will hold a special luncheon to celebrate the Club’s 91st anniversary. There will also be a presentation about the Club’s history, called "Down Memory Lane". Held at the First Congregational Church, 146 E. Main Street, our regular meeting will start at 10 a.m., followed by a social time at 11 a.m. Luncheon is at 11:45 a.m., and the presentation will begin at 12:45 p.m.

Parent Program - Depression and Suicide: Safeguarding Youth, Preventing Tragedies and Building Resiliency

The Hopkinton High School counseling department will present a parent program entitled Depression and Suicide: Safeguarding Youth, Preventing Tragedies and Building Resiliency. The featured speakers for the program will be Kelley Cunningham and Kim Kates from Samaritans Inc., a national organization aimed at preventing suicide. The program will be held on Wednesday, April 6th at 7pm in the high school auditorium. All interested parents, students and community members are invited to attend.
