State Officials Tour Water Fresh Farm
On Monday, September 10, Representative Carolyn Dykema visited Water Fresh Farm with Senator Karen Spilka, Energy and Environmental Affairs Secretary Richard Sullivan and Commissioner of Agriculture Greg Watson as part of a farm tour of the 8th Middlesex District.
The visit to Water Fresh Farm was the first stop on the tour that was designed to focus state attention on the importance of local farms to our communities and to the economy. After an introduction by Dykema, Water Fresh Farm co-owner Jeff Barton spoke about the beginnings of his farm, saying he had been growing in Hopkinton for the past 15 years.
Water Fresh grows a variety of crops, but their main focus is hydroponic tomatoes. With an emphasis on quality, they are particular about any new crops added.
To hear more from Barton and to see highlights of the greenhouse tour, as well as comments from Secretary Sullivan, watch the HCAM News video below.
