The 2014 Hopkinton Hillers Volleyball team won the Division 2 State Championship for the first time ever in the programs history. The team finished the season with 19 sweeps, a 22 and 2 record and swept Weston in the Division 2 State Championship to win the ultimate prize. At one point in the 2nd match the Hillers were down 20-13 but won 11 of the next 12 points to take the 24-21 lead and took any momentum away from Weston.
Holly Adams led the attack with 15 Kills, Whitney Thalheimer contributed with 8 Kills, Hanna Engstrom also racked up 7 Kills. Engstrom was also a threat from the service line with 3 aces. After the game Engstrom talked about the teams effort: "We get better every day we work our hardest and I think we deserve this, we work so hard everyday."
Captain Kaitlyn West continued her outstanding defensive play and contributed in the Championship game with 5 Digs. West had a hard time wiping the smile off her face as she talked to HCAM News about the championship victory: "I think we all have our own strengths and we put them all together and we connect so well."
Coach Margie Grabmeier was excited that this team won the state championship because of how hard they worked throughout the season and the character of the team: "This could not happen to a nicer team, sportsmanship has always been top of the league, they're great girls, they may not be related but they're a volleyball family, I'm so proud."
