The 129th Boston Marathon took place on Monday April 21st and featured about 31,000 runners. It was a nice sunny day with temperatures in the high 60’s/low 70’s. Local participants in the festivities included Hopkinton resident & Hopkinton High School Girls Track/Cross Country Head Coach, Jean Cann & Hopkinton resident & Police Officer, Pat O’Brien who were selected as two of the starters for the waves of runners. Men’s Race Winner – John Korir of Kenya with a time of 2:04:45

Women’s Race Winner – Sharon Lokedi of Kenya with a time of 2:17:22 (Lokedi finished just 19 seconds ahead of 2nd place & last years winner, Hellen Obiri of Kenya)

Men’s Wheelchair – Marcel Hug of Switzerland with a time of 1:21:34 (Hug known as “the Silver Bullet” captured his 8th career Boston Marathon win).

Women’s Wheelchair – Susannah Scaroni of USA with a time of 1:35:20 (Scaroni also won the Boston Marathon in 2023.)

Men’s handcycle – Alfredo de los Santos of Dominican Republic with a time of 1:07:35 (Captured his 2nd Boston Marathon title after winning his first in 2022.)

Women’s handcycle – JoAnn Outten-Kenton of USA with a time of 1:42:57 (Her first win at Boston Marathon)

Hopkinton residents Pat O’Brien & Jean Cann were invited to assist in starting a couple of the runner waves during the 2025 Boston Marathon
