Interim Chief Gary Daugherty is excited to announce that the Hopkinton Fire Department has received funding toward fire prevention efforts through a private grant program.

The $2,846 grant, awarded by mutual insurance company FM Global, was presented to the Hopkinton Fire Department on June 21 and will be used to purchase smoke alarms.
The smoke alarms will be distributed to qualifying residents following a home safety inspection by the department’s Community Risk Reduction team.

Mark William Bracken has been named Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Lottery after having performed the role on an interim basis since March of 2022. State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts State Lottery Commission, made the announcement today during the Commission’s monthly meeting.

Today, Massachusetts State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg announced that the Executive Director and Deputy CEO of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), John (Jack) K. McCarthy, is retiring after 11 years at the MSBA.

McCarthy, who was appointed the Executive Director of the MSBA in January 2012, previously worked for 21 years in state public service, including in the offices of the Inspector General and Secretary of the Commonwealth.

Town Manager Norman Khumalo, Interim Department of Public Works Director Thomas Temple and Town Engineer Dave Daltorio are pleased to share that the Main Street public parking project has been completed and the new parking spaces are immediately available.

The Middlesex Sheriff’s Office celebrated the graduation of 22 new correction officers in a ceremony held Tuesday, June 20, 2023 at Middlesex Community College.

Tuesday’s ceremony featured a keynote address by Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court Associate Justice Frank M. Gaziano and remarks by Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian. Class President Bradford Charlesworth, Middlesex Community College Vice President Patrick Cook and Bedford Police Chief John Fisher also addressed the new officers and their loved ones.

The Massachusetts Senate unanimously approved on Thursday a $590 million Tax Relief bill which delivers support to low- and middle-income earners and chips away at the headwinds that threaten Massachusetts’ competitiveness. Focusing on providing relief to residents across Massachusetts while upholding fiscal responsibility, the Senate's tax relief package will provide relief to renters, seniors, and parents struggling with high early education costs while also increasing much-needed housing production.
