Interim Town Manager Elaine Lazarus and the Hopkinton Water and Sewer Department announce new water and sewer rate changes for residents.
The rate changes went into effect on July 1. Water and sewer rates for Fiscal Year 2025 are as follows, as voted on by the Select Board on June 18.
-Water
Select Board voted to set water rates for FY25, with an increase of 40 percent as follows:
Customers using 0-1,000 cubic feet will be billed the minimum of $52.18.
Customers using 1,001-8,000 cubic feet will be billed $6.37 per 100 cubic feet.
Customers using more than 8,000 cubic feet will be billed $13.22 per 100 cubic feet.
-Sewer
Select Board voted to set sewer rates for FY25 with no increase over FY24. The rates are as follows:
Customers using 0-1,000 cubic feet will be billed $10.62 per 100 cubic feet.
Customers using 1,001-8,000 cubic feet will be billed $12.60 per 100 cubic feet.
Customers using more than 8,000 cubic feet will be billed $15.58 per 100 cubic feet
The Select Board also voted to implement a discount of up to $200 per year on Water Enterprise bills for certain residential water system users and a $200 discount per year on Sewer Enterprise bills for certain residential sewer users.
Residents are eligible for these discounts if they receive property tax exemptions from the Hopkinton Board of Assessors under specific clauses (17, 22, 37, and 41 of Section 5 in Chapter 59 of the Massachusetts General Laws), or receive the Hopkinton Means-Tested Senior Citizen Property Tax Exemption tied to the Massachusetts Circuit Breaker Tax Credit.
