The Hopkinton Sustainable Green Committee (SGC) is hosting an Electric Vehicle (EV) Expo on
Sunday April 27 from 1 – 4pm at Hopkinton
High School.
Several local organizations have partnered with Hopkinton, including Westborough, Ashland, Milford, and 350 Massachusetts.
At the EV Fair, over 15 different models will be represented, as the owners share information about their experiences and allow attendees to look inside their cars and ask questions. Attendees will be able to learn about the different types of electric vehicles, including cars and bicycles from their neighbors who own them.
Nicole Simpson of the Hopkinton SGC said, “Events like this are important for teaching people about their different transportation options in a low-pressure environment. A lot of people are curious about EVs an e-bikes but don’t know anyone who owns them.”
In the past year, 13% of new vehicles registered in Hopkinton were EVs. Additionally, 4% were plug-in hybrid vehicles, which are plugged in to charge, and when their electric capacity runs out, the vehicle seamlessly switches to a gasoline engine.
The Hopkinton Sustainable Green Committee is optimistic about this upward trend, as the transition to electrically-powered transportation is essential for reducing carbon emissions that cause climate change.
Simpson continues, “Many of us need to get around for work, family, or hobbies, and
changing the way we do that can have a big positive impact on our air quality and carbon footprint. We hope the EV Expo helps people consider a greener option for their future transportation needs.”
