Do you have an inspiring story about the Boston Marathon? Have you captured it in a photograph, painting, poem, or sculpture? 2024 marks the 100th time the Boston Marathon will start from Hopkinton. This year HCA is seeking art and stories that celebrate the quiet heroes of the Boston Marathon.
We’ve seen the stories. The beloved dog, Spencer, sat on the sidelines year after year, greeting the runners with a flag in his mouth. The man who ran the course backward to raise awareness for Epilepsy in honor of his son. The Hoyts showed the fierce love and bond between a father and son. And they go on and on and on. We’ve seen the best of the human spirit and watched them all over the years, the heroes among us.
HCA's art gallery has hosted exhibitions celebrating the history of the Boston Globe’s marathon coverage. We’ve celebrated the first woman (Bobbi Gibb) to run the marathon, and now it's time to point a spotlight on the everyday runners who all have a story to tell.
This exhibition is not about the elite runners past or present. It is about the thousands of people who run for their own reasons. From people who have run it every year, to those who have only done it once: HCA wants to feature art that captures the heart of this race!
