By contributor,

On August 14, 2024, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported that mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus had been identified in mosquito pools within Southborough, Northborough, Westborough, Bellingham, Dover, Medfield, Framingham, Natick, Clinton, Marlborough and Worcester. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Hopkinton Health Department encourage residents to utilize EPA approved mosquito repellents and avoid being outdoors during peak mosquito activity at dusk and dawn. Additionally, the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project reports that the population of human biting mosquitoes has increased significantly since the same week last year.

To proactively address this issue, the Hopkinton Health Department has been working with the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project to treat pools of water, natural ponds, and retention ponds around the community with organic mosquito larvicide. In addition, the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project has been performing truck mounted spraying to reduce the number of adult mosquitoes in the community.

If residents would like a water body in their neighborhood treated, please send the Health Director, Shaun McAuliffe, an address/location of the water body and he will forward a weekly service request to the Mosquito Control Project. His email is provided below.
