Hopkinton Marathon Committee Selects Three Starters for 127th Boston Marathon

The Hopkinton Marathon Committee (HMC) has selected Joe Bennett, Jamie Stewart, and Abbie Rosenberg as starters for the second, third and fourth waves of the 127th Boston Marathon on Monday, April 17. The Boston Athletic Association will announce the starters for Wave One and earlier starts.

“To recognize the town of Hopkinton for its role as the stewards of the start of the Boston Marathon, the B.A.A. has charged the Hopkinton Marathon Committee with selecting starters for later waves of the marathon,” said Dorothy Ferriter-Wallace, chairperson of the HMC. “This year the committee is pleased to announce that Joe Bennett, Jamie Stewart, and Abbie Rosenberg have accepted the roles of starters for waves two, three and four, respectively. Police Chief Bennett and Jamie Stewart, recently retired from the Department of Public Works have worked for the Town of Hopkinton for a combined 66 years, and each played big roles in the success of the start of the Boston Marathon. Abbie Rosenberg has served the community in many ways, most notably as the founder of the Sharon Timlin 5k for ALS and as Founder and Executive Director of the Mental Health Collaborative. so it’s fitting that she’ll be starting Wave Four made up primarily of runners raising funds for charities.”

9:05 a.m. Push Rim Wheelchair Women,
9:30 a.m. Handcycle and Duo Participants,
9:37 a.m. Professional Men
9:47 a.m. Professional Women
10:00 a.m.Wave One
10:25 a.m. Wave Two, started by Joe Bennett
10:50 a.m. Wave Three, started by Jamie Stewart
11:15 a.m. Wave Four, started by Abbie Rosenberg

The Hopkinton Marathon Committee was established in 1979 to work in conjunction with the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.), the organizers of the Boston Marathon, to ensure that the annual running of the race is an exciting, successful and safe event for all concerned. Committee members contribute their efforts throughout the entire year to the planning, organization, and coordination of multiple facets of the race, working to protect the best interests and welfare of the town, its residents, businesses and visitors.
