First Annual Hiller’s Golf Tournament a Success

By Michelle Murdock, Freelance Writer

The first annual Hopkinton Hiller’s Golf Tournament held on Monday, August 30 was a success, with a total of 100 players teeing off at Shining Rock Country Club in Northbridge. According to Head Coach Dick Bliss, over twenty-five parents, former players and businesses supported the high school golf team by sponsoring a hole.

“We raffled off over 30 really wonderful raffle prizes after our great barbecue dinner under the tent,” said Bliss.

Two teams tied at a score of 13 under par. The team of Paul Sheahan/Peter Rizzo Sr./Ed Cameron/Rich Dunne were the final winners after a matching card play-off against the team of Steve Horowitz/Mike George/Rabdy Holmeen/Bob Champlin.

Coach Bliss says that the tournament was made possible by help from his committee consisting of Debbie Biggs, Kathy Carl, Pam Aggerbeck, Jenn McCarron, Susan Schofield, Lise Baker, Maureen Bliss and Assistant Coach Bryan King, all of whom he would like to thank.

Although the final tally of funds raised is not available, Bliss says he is pleased with the turn out for this first time event which will provide the golf team with additional shirts, jackets for colder weather and additional practice days at another local golf course or driving range.
