Dear Center Families,
We are ready for a wonderful start to the school year and hope that you are too. Our summer has been busy with preparations for the upcoming year, both inside and outside of the building.
In addition to summer cleaning, we have a number of updates at Center. I’m happy to announce that my office is located in what was previously the conference room off of the main corridor. Janeen Sheelen continues her role as assistant to the principal and is now located in the main office. The conference room is located in Mrs. Sheelen’s previous office space.
I’m pleased to welcome staff new to Center School: Rachel Kerls, physical therapist and Stephanie Hewett, part-time secretary. While not new to Center, Kelly Pickens has transitioned from school psychologist to guidance counselor.
As you prepare for the first day(s) of school, I have some helpful suggestions to share:
Students should wear their nametag for the first two weeks of school. Please ensure it is visible. This helps us identify each child and ensure safety at all times.
Routines: To prepare for the first day and those after, begin easing into a bedtime routine. Chances are, many have strayed from set routines while enjoying the summer months. The day is poised for greater success when we are well rested. Prepare what you can at night: lay out clothing, talk about options for breakfast and lunch to minimize morning madness.
Buses: The routes are posted on the website; click District Departments then Transportation to access the Bus Routes. Be ready at the stop. We encourage a 10-15 minute window at the beginning of the year, as route times are approximations. Be respectful of the time as those not prepared or taking a lot of pictures will delay the route for all. A few minutes at multiple stops will quickly add up to a significant delay for others.
For the dismissal route, allow a window of time as well.
I enjoyed meeting many of you over the summer at coffees, various meetings, spruce up day, and most recently at popsicles on the playground. I look forward to the year ahead. Getting to know you and your child as we work together to build a solid educational foundation is exciting.
