The Hopkinton hockey Jr. Hillers 2 team was victorious over Stoughton 5-2 on Friday night in their league game in Foxboro.

The Hillers were lead by Brendan O'Leary who had 2 goals and an assist. Other goal scorers were, Nick Pomeroy with a goal and assists, Jack Vaccarri, Nick Carrazza, and Brandon Carty chipped in with 2 assists. Goaltenders Tim McGrath and Zac Rodgers played great in net, with Tim not allowing a goal for his second straight game.

Highway Mike Mansir reports that the building at the Highway Department Garage on Wood Street, known as the "pole barn", collapsed today under the weight of the snow.

"It was close to collapse when the building inspector gave the order to pull the rest down." said Mansir. " The fire department used a the rescue truck with a winch to finish the job."

Hopkinton has a new Director of Public Works. Selectmen confirmed the appointment of John Westerling at their January 25th meeting. Westerling will start work in Hopkinton on Monday, February 14th.

Before the vote of the board, Town Manager Norman Khumalo described Westerling as a “champion of civic benefit and a tireless advocate of public works.”

“He brings to this very challenging position a clarity of thinking and a very dedicated commitment to good customer service,” said Khumalo.

Tonight's Public Hearing on the proposed FY12 Budget will still be held this evening in the Middle School Library at 7:30 PM

RJ Dourney announced today he would not be running for re-election to the Hopkinton Board of Selectmen here in Hopkinton. His current term will end May 16th, 2011.

Schools

Due to the inclement weather, there is no school in Hopkinton today. All after school activities are cancelled.

Richard McSheehan, 35, of Hopkinton, MA, passed away Monday, January 24, 2011 after his long battle with Brain Cancer. He leaves behind his beloved Fiancée, Beth Woods, and her daughter Caylee, whom he considered his own.

The basement of the O’Loughlin home in Hopkinton is draped with an assortment of formal gowns and dresses as the Leos -- along with members of the HPTA -- prep for this year’s Perfect Dress fundraiser. Brittany O’Loughlin, Leos President, and her friends admire a few personal favorites: a fuchsia, full-length column dress with delicate beading, a black and white graphic strapless mini with a bubble skirt, and a sequined, teal ball gown worthy of any prom queen.

I am writing to express support for the proposed new K-5 elementary school on Fruit Street and for three elementary school districts. I think many excellent arguments have been made to show why Center School is no longer safe or educationally sound for Hopkinton's children, as well as why now is the right time to go forward with this project financially due to low construction costs and the high reimbursement rate from the state. However, I know many residents are nervous about the concept of districted schools since this is something that has never before been done here.
