Hopkinton Health Department - Arbovirus Alert

On July 23, 2024, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported that mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus had been identified in mosquito pools within Natick, Clinton, Marlborough and Worcester. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Hopkinton Health Department encourage residents to utilize EPA approved mosquito repellents and avoid being outdoors during peak mosquito activity at dusk and dawn. Additionally, the Central Mass Mosquito Control Project reports that the population of human biting mosquitoes has increased 1,766% since the same week last year.

According to the DPW weather station, the highest temperature reached in Hopkinton July 15th through 21st was 90.5 degrees, the lowest was 61.2 degrees. Average temperature during the week in Hopkinton was 76 degrees. Humidity was at an average of 75%, the peak was 98% while the lowest was 44%. Rain accumulated 0.22 inches last week.

Leopold R. Dirlinger, 77

Leopold R. Dirlinger, 77, formerly of Hopkinton, died July 21, 2024 at UMass Medical Center Worcester. He was the husband of the late Susan M. (McCobb) Dirlinger, who died in 1984. Born in Providence, RI on August 20, 1946, he was the son of the late Leopold R. and Agnes M. (Grundy) Dirlinger.

Wayne Mezitt, 81

Wayne Mezitt, 81, of Hopkinton, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2024, after a brief illness and surrounded by his family. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Wally “Vallya” (Bralit) and Edmund V. Mezitt. He was the husband of 59 years to Elizabeth (Pickering) Mezitt of Hopkinton.

Community Notice: Transformers Arriving - Main Street Corridor Project

Working with the Town’s partners at Eversource, I am pleased to announce that 6 transformers will be arriving in Hopkinton this week for the Main Street Corridor Project. They have been tested and are ready to be installed. The remaining 6 transformers will be arriving within the next few weeks. This is great news for the Project, where the lack of transformers has caused project delays. We look forward to the transformer’s installation, which will enable the team to bring the project to completion.

Born in Landsdale, PA, she was the daughter of the late Esther (Courter) and Robert E. Schaedler. She was the beloved wife of 65 years to John Schwartz.
