Read the Letter to the MSBA Here

With the failure of the elementary school project at Special Town Meeting and again at the ballot, Hopkinton is required to provide the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA) with a response that details why the vote failed and outlines possible next steps. After a lengthy discussion on Tuesday, March 29, at a joint meeting of the Board of Selectmen, the School Committee and and Elementary School Building Committee, a draft of that response was agreed upon. The final letter to the MSBA was finalized by Superintendent Phelan and Selectman Chair RJ Dourney.

The letter provides the MSBA with the outcome of both votes, gives suggested reasons for the failure of the project to gain residents' support and outlines, in general terms, Hopkinton's next step.

"While the residents did not approve the project, the level of engagement in the community has been incredible. We intend to capitalize on the community's interest in faciilty improvements by conducting public forums, surveys and listening sessions to better understand the community's priorities specific to a project addressing the needs at Center School. From the information collected, we will develop a more detailed timeline and process for building consensus in the next six months. Within the next two months, we will provide the MSBA with an update on our progress. Our ultimate goal is to remain in your capital pipeline and to continue our work with the MSBA."
