Organization Active in Support for Elizabeth Warren, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Among Others
BOSTON — The Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC), a national grassroots organization whose million-member network advocates for progressive candidates and issues across the country, today announced its endorsement of Ed Markey for re-election to the United States Senate.
“Building on the huge energy for progressives in last night's primaries, we are proud to formally endorse Ed Markey for Senate. Senator Markey was the first senator to stand with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for a Green New Deal, one of the first elected leaders to fight for Net Neutrality, and the first senator to publicly reject campaign cash from the Fraternal Order of Police as they try to block police reform. Ed Markey is tested, consistent, and progressives are stronger with Markey and Elizabeth Warren fighting alongside each other in the Senate,” said Maria Langholz, PCCC spokesperson.
The PCCC organizes donors and volunteers across the nation in local, state, and national elections to support campaigns and candidates who embody its progressive goals. The organization also endorsed Senator Ed Markey in his Senate race in 2013.
“I am honored to have the Progressive Change Campaign Committee in this fight with me. They have been proud supporters of my friend and colleague, Elizabeth Warren, from the beginning, and a collaborator with me for years. We share so many of these fights, whether it's the push for a Green New Deal, debt-free college, or free and open internet,” said Senator Markey. “We appreciate having by our side the strong, progressive people-power of grassroots groups like the PCCC.”
The endorsement follows the recent announcements of support for Ed Markey from several major groups across the state, including the national, progressive grassroots organization Indivisible, the Sunrise Movement, American Federation of Teachers Massachusetts, Our Revolution Massachusetts, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, NARAL Pro-Choice, Progressive Democrats of America, the NRDC Action Fund, the Jamacia Plain Progressives, American Postal Workers Local #4553, and UNITE Here Local 26 labor union workers.
The PCCC is a million-member grassroots organization building power at the local, state and federal levels. It engages in electoral work and issue advocacy work -- fighting on democracy issues and for economic populist priorities like expanding Social Security, Medicare For All, a Green New Deal, student debt cancellation, and Wall Street reform.
Senator Markey has served in the United States Senate since winning the special election in 2013 and has amassed a deep record on environmental, climate, gun safety, and consumer protection issues. He co-authored the Green New Deal, and his leadership has led to legislation to address the humanitarian crisis on the southern border, protect LGBTQ+ rights, and ensure that Donald Trump cannot launch a nuclear first strike without Congressional approval. Raised in Malden, Ed Markey has always stood up for the priorities of Massachusetts.
