Have you ever wanted to own a share of a farm and receive a selection of some the freshest produce? Now you can, thanks in part to the Friends of the Hopkinton Public Library, who will be raffling off a bi-weekly share of Long Life Farm in Hopkinton. Long Life Farm is an organic Community Supported Agriculture Farm, or CSA for short, with 1 1/2 acres of farmland at the corner of School and Pond Street and at Amato Farm. Owner Laura Davis, who started the farm in 2011 with her husband Donald Sutherland , was at the library on January 16th to discuss it.
Unlike many CSAs, Long Life Farm does not require its shareholders to take part in the farming process in order to receive their share. For either ten or twenty weeks, starting in June, shareholders receive a variety of fruits and vegetables throughout the growing season.
According to Davis, growing the produce in an organic manner, without pesticides, means that they have more nutrients than produce bought at a grocery store.
This is first year that Long Life Farm has donated a share, which is worth $300, to Friends of the Library to raffle. The drawing is on Wednesday March 27th. Tickets are currently being sold at the library and are $10 each or 3 for $25. All money raised from the raffle goes in support of the library.
