Christian Ollenborger, a Republican, announced today that he is seeking a position on the Hopkinton Planning Board. There are three open seats on the board, two for full 5-years terms, and one for an unexpired term until 2013. Ollenborger is hoping to win the seat for the unexpired term, previously held by long time Planning Board member John Coolidge who has resigned effective May 9.
Ollenborger and his wife Wendy are new to Hopkinton and Ollenborger says they are already at home.
“We chose Hopkinton for the beautiful landscape, great school system and proximity to Boston,” said Ollenborger. “We are planning our roots, starting our family and are here to stay.”
Running for Planning Board will be Ollenborger’s first foray into public service, but he says that he believes his skill set will serve him well on the board. He earned a BS degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and completed his MBA at Fitchburg State College. As a certified project management professional who works as an Information Technology Project Manager for McKesson Corporation, Ollenborger says he does a lot of balance and scope subject matter that I’m not always an expert in.
“I ask pretty good questions,” said Ollenborger. “And I’m able to flush out if there is a detail that was missed or something that needs to be further developed in order for it to be executed upon.”
Ollenborger is running for Planning Board because he thinks that Hopkinton is at a crossroads as a community.
“The Legacy Farms construction and our efforts to revitalize our downtown area can provide great opportunities,” said Ollenborger, “but we also must balance change with maintaining Hopkinton’s character.”
Ollenborger believes strongly that people need to give back to their community and looks forward to serving on the Planning Board.
“This has been a lot of fun,” said Ollenborger. “I’ve already met a lot of folks. Everybody is very receptive. This is a great place to serve.”
