Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) announces an exciting summer session of theater, fine art, ceramics, film, music, and dance classes and intensives. The 2021 summer session runs from June 22 through August 28 and is open to students ages 4 to 17.
Weekly classes and intensives give all students the chance to focus on skill building, improving technique, or trying a brand new discipline. All programs are taught by artist-instructors who have experience working and teaching in their field. Registration and safety information can be found at www.hopartscenter.org.
This summer, HCA dance director Jessica Wilson is introducing an array of workshops and intensives, including Dance Adventure (ages 5 to 7) and Dance Workshop (ages 8 to 11). For intermediate and advanced dancers with prior formal training, the Summer Dance Intensive (ages 10 to 17) helps students build strength, improve technique, and reach for their goals in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
Aspiring thespians can register for Broadway for Kids (ages 4 to 6) or Summer Theater: Show in a Week (ages 7 to 13). All students will have the opportunity to perform live in front of a supportive crowd of family and friends at the end of each week. Students can also register to audition for Enter Stage Left Theater summer productions Willy Wonka, Jr. (ages 9 to 13) and Firebringer (ages 14 and up).
Students who love to draw, paint, and sculpt should register for the HCA’s Art Adventures for Kids (ages 4 to 6) or Fine Arts Academy (ages 7 to 13). Older teens can sign-up for Ceramics Wheel Throwing (ages 11 to 17) where they will learn the basics of making pottery on a wheel. For students who enjoy both performing and visual arts the Complete Artist (ages 7 to 13) program allows them the unique opportunity to study both. Extended day options are available for families who are interested in late pick-up.
Specialty programs include Movie Making Madness (ages 9 to 13) for beginning film-makers and a fun and collaborative Jazz Intensive Workshop (ages 10 to 17) for beginner to advanced students.
HCA invites local teens to volunteer as Counselor-in-Training assistants. Each teen is paired with a teaching artist and helps out in the studio. There are opportunities to volunteer for one week or the entire summer.
As a non-profit community arts center, the HCA believes the arts are for everyone, and encourages guardians and parents of children living in Hopkinton and surrounding Metrowest towns to apply for need-based scholarships through its online scholarship form.
