Library Director Nanci Hill and the Hopkinton Public Library are excited to announce the Reading Marathon in conjunction with the 100-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon starting in Hopkinton.
Sign up for the challenge at the library at any desk. Sign-up begins on Feb. 12. The program begins on Feb. 18. Participants may also join after the start date.
Participants are challenged to read four days a week for a total of four weeks. For each week of reading logged, a librarian will give the participant five tickets to be entered into a prize basket of the participant's choice.
The library will provide an official reading log for participants. Reading must be logged on this sheet, which can be picked up at the Hopkinton Public Library on 13 Main St. If a participant is unable to pick up a log by the start date, they may pick up their log throughout the length of the program in order to claim drawing tickets.
Tickets can be claimed weekly or may be claimed in full by Saturday, March 23.
Additionally, children who are not yet of reading age may also participate by being read to.
"Just like marathon runners, good readers consistently practice and challenge themselves," Library Director Nanci Hill said. "I hope Hopkinton brings its all-star competition!"
The reading schedule is as follows:
WEEK 1: Feb. 18-24
WEEK 2: Feb. 25 to March 2
WEEK 3: March 3-9
WEEK 4: March 10-16
Reading logs must be presented to the library by Saturday, March 23 in order to claim prize tickets. Winners must be able to pick up their prize at the Hopkinton Public Library. The prize drawings will be held on Monday, March 25. All winners will be contacted by email on March 25 as well.
