During last night’s NBA Finals game between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks, State Treasurer Deboarh B. Goldberg, the Massachusetts Unclaimed Property Division, and the Texas Unclaimed Property Division helped fans at TD Garden check their names in the states’ unclaimed property databases. This morning, Good Morning America featured a segment highlighting unclaimed property at last night’s game.

In Massachusetts, one in ten people have unclaimed property waiting for them, and checking the list for your name is the perfect opportunity for a simple slam dunk. Last year, the Office of the State Treasurer processed over 145,000 claims and returned $185 million in property to its rightful owners, including individuals, businesses, and non-profits.

Folks who have unclaimed property include the Boston Celtics organization itself, owners Wyc Grousbeck and Steve Pagliuca, President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens, and players Jrue Holiday and Al Horford.

"It is time to block out distractions, take it to the bucket, and let the Unclaimed Property team assist you," said Treasurer Deborah Goldberg. "Call our office today to begin the give-and-go."

Unclaimed property includes forgotten savings and checking accounts, un-cashed checks, insurance policy proceeds, stocks, dividends, and the contents of unattended safe deposit boxes. These accounts have had too much hang time and are turned over to the state after three years of inactivity.

The Office of the State Treasurer releases an updated list of unclaimed property assets every six months as new accounts are turned over to the Commonwealth. There is no buzzer beater needed for a person to claim this property and, in many cases, claimants will receive interest accumulated. Don't miss your chance to take a shot. Nothing but net!
