Dear Vets and Friends:
The Christmas season is behind us. Now is the time to return to a more healthy diet. Our government has developed a way that, especially at our age, can facilitate a resurgence of your slim, trim, firm, healthy body. How, you ask? Return to your chipped beef rations! The Vets Breakfast on Friday, 6 January 2017, at 0900 hours, in the Senior Center mess hall is the answer.
Our comrade Irving C. “Charlie” Miller, Jr., USMC (Guadalcanal, Cape Gloucester, and Peleliu/Palau) is the most recent photo submitted to The Gallery; John “Jack” S. Aroian, USN on the nuclear USS Enterprise (CVN-65), is the lastest photo that can be viewed, www.hcam.tv/series/veterans/Navy/Slide1.JPG . Veterans Remember has been updated too. For the time being, Part I of Bob Lavoie’s USMC story is the feature/first video at www.hcam.tv/veteransremember .
On Friday, we will recognize the local veterans who were lost during the past month, and identify those who are house-bound on sick call. They would appreciate a visit, or at least a call, from you.
Recollections of military events that previously occurred on 6 January will be discussed. Also there will be announcements of current veterans activities in Hopkinton.
A free breakfast will be awarded to anyone who correctly answers the monthly baseball quiz: since WW II, 4 ML hitters had 5 or more seasons with a BA of .350 or more. Rod Carew and Tony Gwynn are two; who are the others?
Any veteran with transportation difficulties should call Amy Beck at the Senior Center on/before 4 January 2017.
Amer. Legion McDonough-Carlberg Post 202 will lead the Pledge of Allegiance, and the blessing of the meal.
See you Friday. Out.
Hank Allessio
