On Tuesday February 19th. Hopkinton Hillers Boys Basketball had their regular season finale against the Wayland Warriors. Both teams entered the game with 13 wins and 6 losses and were fighting for home-court advantage in the playoffs.
In the 1st quarter, Wayland outscored Hopkinton 19-12. Xander Livingston netted 10 points in the quarter for the Warriors. In the 2nd quarter, Steven Maffiore netted a pair of 3’s and Brendan Kelly racked up a couple field goals to help the Hillers outscored Wayland 20-14. Wayland led at the half 33-32.
Brendan Kelly continued his low post dominance in the 3rd quarter knocking down 4 field goals and helping the Hillers outscore Wayland 18-13. Hillers led after the 3rd 50-46. Jabari Nurse netted 9 points for Wayland in the 4th quarter but it would not be enough as the Hillers outscore Wayland 13 to 11 in the quarter and took the game 63-57.
The Hillers finish the regular season with 14 wins and 6 losses and will next compete in the MIAA state tournament. According to a number of sources, there is a good chance the Hillers will get a visit from Wayland again to begin post season play.
In the game, Steven Maffiore and Brendan Kelly netted 19 points a piece, Ryan Kester contributed 9 points. Brendan Kelly also had 11 rebounds. Hopkinton Hillers Head Coach, Tom Keane also recorded his 250th career win at the helm for the Hillers.
