The Hopkinton Fire Department hosted their annual open house. This year the HFD hosted a cooking safety demonstration to reinforce the importance of practicing safe measures while using the stove and how quickly a fire could spread in your home if a safe cooking area is not maintained and also the benefits of home fire sprinklers.
According to FEMA statistics, cooking was responsible for nearly 170,000 residential building fires in the year 2021, which is nearly 2/3rds of the fires reported and according to the home fire sprinkler coalition, home fires without sprinklers could become deadly in as little as two minutes.
In addition to the safety demonstration, the community enjoyed fire truck rides, safety drills, some refreshments and much more.
