Hopkinton High School Drama Ensemble holds “Fringe Benefit” Fundraising Event

The Hopkinton High School Drama Department, looking to raise funds for its upcoming trip to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival is offering a “Friday Night on the Town,” Friday, September 17th from 6:30pm- 9:30pm in the Hopkinton High School auditorium. Children in grades 1-6 can join Ms. von Rosenvinge and the HHS drama ensemble as they follow the yellow brick road and enjoy the family movie classic with Dorothy and the cast of characters. In addition to the movie there will be special guest appearances from some of the movie’s favorite characters, as well as lemonade and popcorn for all!

An Interview with Hopkinton’s New DPW Director

Hopkinton’s newly appointed Director of Public Works Brendan O’Regan has been on the job since the beginning of August. HCAM News stopped by his office on Fruit Street for an update as he assumes his new responsibilities.

The Board of Selectmen unanimously voted to approve O’Regan appointment on August 3, 2010. Hopkinton.

“Brendan joins the town with extensive DPW experience,” said Town Manager Norman Khumalo.

Superintendent Phelan Announces Retirement

School Committee Chairman Rebecca Robak confirmed at her committee’s September 3 meeting that Superintendent Jack Phelan has announced that he will retire at the end of the current school year.

In addition to the School Committee’s goals for this year, a new task will now be required to replace Phelan.

“We will have to begin a superintendent search,” said Robak.

New Library Plans Moves to Next Phase

The Permanent Building Committee met on August 12 at the library to begin the next phase of the Hopkinton Public Library Expansion Project.

The meeting began with a discussion of a budgetary item and the development of a ranking and response system for qualifying bids received from architectural firms that express interest in the project.

Ernest E. Chamberlain, 79, of Hopkinton, died May 22, 2010. Born in New Hampshire, and raised in Brattleboro, VT, he was the son of the late Florry (Tucker) and Carl Chamberlain. He was the husband of the late Ruth E. (Hurley) Chamberlain who passed away in 1994.

Veteran Departs - Frederick White

Frederick S. White, 84, died Friday, 26 March 2010. “Fred” was a proud and patriotic sailor who served in World War II including time in North Africa. He was from a family of five siblings who all served in WW II. As an under-age 16-year old, Fred was denied enlistment. Soon after turning 17, he dropped-out of high school to enlist in the US Navy. His first post was the Newport Naval Training Station.
