Town Manager Norman Khumalo, Police Chief Joseph Bennett, and Fire Chief William Miller report that the Town of Hopkinton is responding to a power outage.
At about 6:54 p.m. on Friday, the Hopkinton Communications Department received reports that a large tree on School Street had fallen. Hopkinton Police and Fire responded to the scene, discovering that the tree had knocked down wires and a pole, damaging a transformer. Power was knocked out in the area surrounding School Street. No one was injured.
Eversource crews are on scene to clear the tree and live wires, and to restore power. Town Department of Public Works crews are standing by to assist.
The Town asks residents to stay away from the School Street area during the cleanup.
About 100 Hopkinton customers are without power as of 11:30 p.m. Friday.
Due to the extreme cold, the Town is prepared to open Hopkinton High School, 90 Hayden Rowe St., and the Hopkinton Senior Center, 28 Mayhew St., as warming stations for the duration of the outage.
Residents who need access to a warming station are asked to call the Hopkinton Police Department non-emergency number, 508-497-3401, or the Hopkinton Fire Department non-emergency number, 508-497-2323.
Residents with an emergency are urged to call 911.
