Joseph A. Niedzialkoski, 86, of Hopkinton, passed away Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at Milford Regional Medical Center. Born in Sterling, MA., he was the son of the late Frank and Czeslawa (Bronislawski) Niedzialkoski. Joseph was the last survivor of his 7 siblings. He was the husband of the late Mary Niedzialkoski who passed in 2002.

School Committee Press Release on New Elementary School at Fruit Street

For the past ten years, the School Committee has been discussing with the community the need to renovate and expand Center School to improve the quality of education for Hopkinton’s students. The age and condition of the present facility compromise learning. The age and condition of Center School also do not allow the district to meet its goal for "neighborhood schools" where all K-5 students from a family could attend the same school near their home.

MLK Blood Drive Hopes to Increase Pints Collected

On Monday January 17, 2011, during the MLK Day of Giving Back, the BeFree project will be holding a blood drive sponsored by the American Red Cross. It will be held from 10am to 3pm in the Doyle Gym at the Hopkinton Middle School. Last year 68 pints of blood were collected. This year's goal is 90 pints of blood. There will be more staff on hand and more time slots available, making donations easier this year. Donors must be 16 year olds or older. Those who are 16 require a signed parental permssion slip. Older donors do not need a permission slip.

Mary Johnson Clark, 70

Mary Johnson Clark 70, a lifetime Hopkinton resident and wife of Robert G. Clark, found eternal peace while in the loving care of her husband, family, CNA, and Hospice. She was the daughter of the late Frank and Marion Johnson.

POSTPONED TO FEBRUARY 26 DUE TO POOR ICE CONDITIONS ON LAKE WHITEHALLThe Woodville Rod & Gun Club is holding it's annual Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, January 22, 2011. The entry fee is $20.00 per person and must accompany a registration form. Registration forms may be obtained at the club or from our website: www.woodvillerodandgun.com. Breakfast will be served for a nominal fee beginning at 5:00 am at the club house located at 252 Wood Street.

7th Grade Girls Win Tournament

Congratulations to the Hopkinton Girls 7th grade "A" Travel Basketball team for winning the Fundamental Holiday Basketball Tournament this past week in Lowell, Mass. The girls defeated Peabody, Acton/Boxboro, Westford and Salem, NH to win the championship. Pictured in front row (left to right): Elise Carlson, Alli McNulty, Allie Rodman, Kate Welzel. School Committee to Hold Office Hours

The School Committee has several big tasks to undertake in 2011 and each requires a significant amount of communication with the community. We are beginning work on the 2012 operating budget; working with the Board of Selectmen to schedule a Special Town Meeting in March so the town can consider building a new elementary school building project on Fruit Street; and conducting a search for a new Superintendent of Schools.
