HCA: Marc Cohn set to perform at Hopkinton Center for the Arts

The Hopkinton Center for the Arts (HCA) has announced its fourth annual Celebrity Spotlight on the Arts fundraising concert. This hallmark event features a nationally acclaimed artist each year to bolster HCA's mission and annual fund. The performer for 2024 is the Grammy Award-winning artist, Marc Cohn.

This annual event serves as HCA's signature fundraiser and provides much needed support for the organization. Created in 2011, HCA, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit community arts center, fosters and celebrates the creative spirit in everyone.

At the August 5th Planning Board meeting, designers and engineers of the Charleswood Elementary School project presented a design of what the school would look like.

This school will be replacing Elmwood school and provide a larger capacity to help with the growing amount of students.

West Nile Virus Positive Mosquitoes in Adjacent Communities

On August 6, 2024, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health reported that mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus had been identified in mosquito pools within Westborough, Bellingham, Medfield, Framingham, Natick, Clinton, Marlborough and Worcester. The Massachusetts Department of Public Health and Hopkinton Health Department encourage residents to utilize EPA approved mosquito repellents and avoid being outdoors during peak mosquito activity at dusk and dawn.

Fruit Street closure/detour - August 7th & 8th

MassDOT has announced a temporary road closure required for utility work as part of the I-495/I-90 Interchange Improvements Project. The proposed work will close Fruit Street as it crosses under I-495, and will take place from 9AM until 1PM on Wednesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 8. You can view the planned detour here.

MassDOT would like to apologize for the short notice as this is an unexpected, last-minute shift.

Hopkinton Police Department Launches Program Rewarding Kids with Ice Cream Vouchers

Chief Joseph Bennett is pleased to announce that the Hopkinton Police Department is launching a new program this week where officers can reward children they observe doing positive acts within the community with ice cream vouchers.

Operation Sweet Rewards began this week and Hopkinton Police officers will be handing out Sweet Scoops Citations to children in the community they observe doing things like helping a friend, showing kindness and being responsible citizens.

State Agencies Announce Recipients of Financial Education Grant for Veteran-Serving Institutions

Organizations will use their funds to offer financial education programming to the military community.

The State Treasurer’s Office of Economic Empowerment (OEE), the Division of Banks (DOB), and the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) announced the recipients of the 2024 round of Operation Money Wise. This grant funding promotes financial education programming for non-profit organizations, public agencies, and higher education institutions that serve the military community in Massachusetts.
